Featured & Top 10 in Nikon Club Malaysia

Last month Dec 2011 I was featured in Nikon Club Malaysia (NCM) as Featured Nikon Club Photographer, it was my first ever featured in photography related post and I'm really happy with it.

The reason I was featuring in the website because my picture was selected in the NCM Member's Post Top 10 Photographers Leaderboard. As I posted before I was ranked Number 1 in the earlier stage, then recently dropped to Number 2 spot. However I felt I'm very lucky that my photos were selected, I really never expected it since there were so many BEST photos out there compare to my photos.

After few months of waiting, finally NCM has announced the Nikon Club Malaysia Top 10 Photographers 2011 (Final).

Again... I never expected will be in Top 10 list for the final round of selection, I'm really pleased that 2 of my photos were selected!

It's like a motivation to me after so many years into this hobby, I'm not proud of myself but I must thank to all who taught me, shared experiences and giving me tips all these while. Without you all I won't able to snap it right.

Ford Driving Skills For Life

Last Saturday morning (17 Dec 2011) I participated the first ever Ford Driving Skills For Life in Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS). The Saturday morning slot was specially allocated to Ford Fiesta Fan Club Malaysia (FFC) members.

A big thank to Sime Darby Auto Connexion (SDAC) for organising this meaningful event to all Ford owners. In this programme, we'd learn about theories and hands-on exercises with our own cars. There were four exercises in this defensive driving course:

Seating and Steering Demonstration
Slalom Drills
Braking Technique
Skid Control

For Skid Control exercise, SDAC has prepared 2 different Ford Fiesta (1.4 LX & 1.6S) for us, that mean we don't need to risk our own tyres, how good was that! The 1.4 LX version is without ESP (Electronic Stability Programme) and 1.6S version is come with ESP.

Jacky Cheung 1/2 Century Tour in Malaysia

It's been a long waited for me since I bought the VVIP ticket with my buddies 6 months ago, finally I got chance to watch Jacky Cheung live in Malaysia!

I've missed twice of his concert in Malaysia after I bought the ticket but I was sending to Middle East for work and unable to watch it, this time it was a mixed feeling with happiness, emotional and excitement for me to watch his concert live.

Initially the concert planned to held on 9 Dec 2011 (Friday) and 10 Dec 2011 (Saturday) only, due to overwhelming of his fans and audience, the organiser decided to add more seats on both days. It doesn't solved the over demand, they decided to add another show on 11 Dec 2011(Sunday), and guess what? It still not enough! So the organiser added another show on 8 Dec 2011 (Thursday).

I can say it's a record breaking on his concert ticket sale in Malaysia, from 2 days concert became 4 days straight! I was worry on Jacky Cheung whether he can non stop singing for 4 days straights for a man at his aged of 50!

As expected, on 10 Dec 2011 (3rd show), Jacky was not feeling well due to flu, before the show began he stood out and explained he may not complete the show due to sound lost, but he promised will do his best in order not to disappoint all the fans, the organiser promised to pay back to us if the show not complete.

After the speech, the show began as per scheduled. The first 2 songs can hear that Jacky not sang to his best, I was so worry at that moment, but after the third song his voice getting better and better and he managed to sing to his best for 3 hours long non-stop!

Seriously during the show, my tears dropped few times, it is because I listen to his songs since his first album and always being his die hard fan before he became famous! His songs brought me lots of flashback memories.

He promised he will back to Malaysia for concerts in future, I'm looking forward to that!

It was an excellent performance by Jacky Cheung although he was sick, he did his best all his shows, really a perfectionist singer for a Chinese singer. I give 101% for his show!

I Was No. 1 in NikonClub Malaysia

It was a great surprised for me and I wasn't realised until one of my photography buddies told me that I was ranked Number 2 for Oct 2011 in NikonClub Malaysia.

Then I browsed through the previous months ranking, I found out that I was ranked Number 1 from April till September 2011! How forgetful am I, I registered as member for this club in April when it just launched.

After registration and submitted some photographs, I wasn't expect my photographers will be selected in Top 10, so I don't bother it at all until my friend found out about it.

Yes! I was Number 1 in September 2011, then I was so curious and browsed furthermore and I really very surprised that I was in ranked Number 1 since the beginning!

Dream Theater - A Dramatic Turn Of Events (2011)

Finally a long waited of Dream Theater's new album is out! I can't wait to get an original copy in Malaysia, yeah definitely I'll buy the original copy although I've listened the entire album downloaded from internet week ago.

To me this album is awesome! Without Mike Portnoy (former drummer) the band's spirits still carry on with the new drummer Mike Mangini. I felt this album is more like back to old days Dream Theater which I more prefer on it.

I felt this album mixing like lack of details, the drum sound is not that loud enough, maybe because it's downloaded version, hopefully the original CD sound is much better.

According to few music stores I went and asked about this album, all also said only can be arrived by next month, I really disappointed with it, still need to wait another month only can get the original copy. Anyway, I'm looking forward for it...

My Ford Fiesta

My new car Ford Fiesta sedan just 1 month old, so far I got no complain about it, in fact I'm so loving so drive it. It is a great fun to drive this car, comfort, great performance and greatest safety among all in same classes.

At first I was thinking to change to Honda City or Toyota Vios, but my uncle asked me to look for Ford Fiesta. So I took a test drive and did lots of research about all cars in this Segment, finally I choose this car and I never regret my decision.

This new batch of Ford Fiesta sedan came with 7 air bags, build-in USB, bluetooth and voice command, compare to 1st batch of sedan only came with 1 air bag and without USB, bluetooth and voice command.

It is solid and great handling, fuel consumption is low, for city drive can go up to 450-500km per full tank (42 liters), but depend on how you drive it. I tested before drove from KL to Penang in smooth and easy drive, it can go up to 630++km!!!

To me this car is rocks! Some may say it is small, but to me is alright. The hatchback models look even more sporty but I choose sedan because I prefer larger boot for me to store more things when needed.

Overall with the price of RM 81,388 (sedan) and you get so much features compare to other branded cars, it is worth for money! Although Ford don't have resale value, but to me I'll use this car for many years, so it is not a big deal, furthermore SDAC offered 3 years warranty + 3 years free service, it is more than worthy in long run.

It's been quite some time I did not update my blog since I was so busy with works & personal matters, furthermore I did not have any idea what to blog.

Last weekend I did Pets photo shooting after never shoot pets for some time, I have to admit that it's not easy especially deal with bunch of hyper active dogs, anyway it was a good exercise for that Sunday morning for me and other 2 friends went for this pets photo shooting at Bandar Utama Park.

We got 5 Beagles in this photo session, all of them are family members with the parents and 3 of their children.

Last weekend I went back to Penang again for another family gathering, after landed to Penang International Airport, my cousin brought me for nice breakfast with best coffees, after the breakfast we headed to Leboh Tek Soon near KOMTAR area for a short photo shooting on some broken houses.

It's sad to see the heritage buildings being torn down for new development, maybe there are some reason, those houses are in very condition. I heard they going to build the houses look like old days design.

Anyway, before its fully gone, we decided to capture the last moment of the houses...

Penang Hill Trip June 2011

Last weekend I went back to Penang for an most important and most memorable family reunion/gathering at Penang Hill. It was organised by my uncle in conjunction of my another uncle came back from United State for a short trip after 7 years.

Actually this family reunion was my father most wanted wish to have family gathering when he was around, but too bad this gathering only can happened after he left us. Anyway, the gathering was great, only thing still not 100% turned up on this gathering, if not it will be more merrier.

Overall everyone were enjoying the gathering and with the nice environment, I felt so relax for the first time in many years. I still feel not enough just stay overnight there...

In Memory of My Loving Father

On this year Wesak Day (17th May 2011) is my most unforgettable day of my life, my loving father passed away on this day while I was still on duty in Abu Dhabi.

It was the most heartbroken moment when I received the news, I wasn't beside him when he left us. The pain really can't be explained, I was so down and blaming myself that did not spend more time with him in recent years.

My father, is the best man I ever seen in my life, he did lots of good deeds in his entire life for the family, siblings and friends. Although he wasn't highly educated, but his hard works, his sacrifices, his kindness were far better than anyone else who are rich and highly educated.

Remember I was a kid, we weren't talk much as he was sacrificing his time to work more just enough to feed the family, but when anyone of us fell sick or hurt, he'll tried his best to arrange his time to come back and comfort us quietly while we were sleeping, he just never showed it directly, but his heart does.

I don't think words can explain about my good dad here, there were too many old days stories which I will not manage to write here, but all are still in my memories, I'll cherish every moments that we had forever...

I always do my best to work harder like him, and pay him and mom back by taking care of them, let them happy always and no worries, but... out of sudden, I wasn't achieve what I wanted, I feel I'm so useless!

I can't continue anymore as I can't hold my tears... allow me to express my words from my heart...

Pink Floyd Short Reunion

On 12th May 2011, it was the most historical night for music industry that all surviving Pink Floyd members were together in Roger Waters' "The Wall" concert in O2 Arena.

So coincidence on that night I was browsing around via Youtube on Pink Floyd songs, I wasn't aware that O2 Arena was having an epic moment, David Gilmour made surprised appearance in Roger Waters' "The Wall" tour for "Comfortably Numb" this song. I only knew about it the next day when I read Twitter's timeline mentioned about it.

It was my happiest moment when I knew about it, I immediately search the video everywhere to see how was it, surprisingly Nick Mason also appeared in the end for "Outside The Wall". To be honest, I was crying with joy when look at those videos, how I wish I was there!

This was the 2nd time full reunion in 30 years when in 2005, full Pink Floyd members (David Gilmour, Roger Waters, Nick Mason & Richard Wright) were performing in Live8 concert. After 6 years they were together again but without Richard Wright who passed away in 2008. Seriously I can feel Richard Wright & Syd Barrett were there too...

It is understand that David Gilmour will only do one-off show in Roger Waters' "The Wall" tour, but I believe that they will make another full reunion soon. Just look at their reaction to each others, I got no doubt they will on stage together in near future, I believe that's everybody wishes to see them all again on stage.

Is the Red Bull and Sebastian Vettel still unstoppable for the 2011 Formula One season? So far 4 races gone and Sebastian Vettel has won 3 races so far.

It's getting bored if Red Bull still dominants most of the races this year, where are the Mclaren? Ferrari and Mercedes?!

This season should be an interesting season while total of Five former World Champion Drivers on the full line-up with legendary Michael Schumacher, Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button and Sebastian Vettel as defending World Driver Champion.

New 'Dream Theater' Line-Up

On 8th September 2010, it was a shocking news in music industry that the greatest rock drummer Mike Portnoy announced to leave Dream Theater. Mike Portnoy also the co-founder of Dream Theater was the master mind of the band for 25 years long.

His departure really hurt all Dream Theater fans included myself, it's hard to imagine the band without the greatest drummer, what would it be? Seriously I love Dream Theater because of the chemistry among the bandmates, I can't find any band can play so well ever in this generation.

My dream vanished to see original line-up of Dream Theater live in concert which I planned MUST WATCH their concert if they do it in South East Asia again, I missed their last concert in Bangkok or Singapore that I planned to go but I wasn't around, it's such a waste!

For months everyone were wondering who will going to be the new drummer for Dream Theater, it was a difficult moment for John Petrucci, John Myung, James LaBrie & Jordan Rudess to choose 7 greatest drummers to join the band as official new Dream Theater.

It's not only about the skills, Dream Theater members used to be lived like a family and chemistry between members. After sessions of audition for all 7 drummers, finally they revealed Mike Mangini as their new drummer!

You can see all the audition series via RoadRunner Records Channel, the series named as 'The Spirit Carries On' with total of 3 episodes. I really wish Mike Mangini is another bomb for Dream Theater where their musics are more on Progressive Metal genre.

I'm really looking forward for their upcoming new album, at least they still keep their spirit carries on, in this era is very hardly to hear any band that play the REAL musics anymore. To me music is not only easy listening like pop musics, I prefer musics need skills and chemistry among bandmates to produce the feel of musics.

Let's welcome Mike Mangini into Dream Theater's family, of cause nobody is the same, but at least they keep the spirits along!

Formula 1 is one of my favorite motorsports when I was just a kid, since then I always wish to go watch at least a F1 race live in front of my own eyes, but I never had the chance at all till now...

I was involved to build the YAS Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi back in 2009, and yet no chance to witness the 1st race while I've been transferred back to Malaysia when the track completed, sadly to say it was a biggest missed of my life.

This time, many thank to Wingz who created the chance for me and Dale via BuggerShots as part of the member of Sepang International Circuit Official Photographer for the 2011 Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix.

It was very tiring job for 3 straight days covering the entrance area, mall area and whole Main Grandstand area, but I was having lots of fun!

Right now I got total of 3 guitars, 2 electric and 1 acoustic. What is my next dream guitar? Yeah, it's Gibson Les Paul, but it's too far out of my budget, need few more years to save more money to buy. Anyway, my real dream guitar still is Fender Black Strat owned by David Gilmour, that even more expensive and I don't think I can afford to own it...

It's been few months I never came back to my hometown, this time I got the chance to come back and visit my family members for the Chinese Lunar New Year 2011.

I was driving all the way from Kuala Lumpur to Butterworth, and the moment I reached Jalan Raja Uda, I was so surprised to see along the street is full with lanterns! This street is approximately 3.4 km long.

10 years ago, this street was nothing to shout about, the road is narrow and surrounded by wooden houses. Now, this whole street become so happening with proper and well-planned shop houses, the road is much more widen and I can say it's the 'Food Heaven' street.

For so many years I never feel a place with the mood of Chinese Lunar New Year, this time finally I found the mood again, I believe these are the great effort by the locals and local government here. I really feel so warm to come back here.

I can say it was my great start of the year of 2011, I never won any 1st prize in any contest or competition in my life, this time I won my working company's photography contest in conjunction of the 30th Anniversary Celebration.

I'm one of the organising committees for the company's 30th Anniversary Dinner and Celebration, I was handling Badminton & Futsal event and it was successfully done. At the same time I also incharge of photography contest about the company "WCT 30 Years" as the main theme of the contest.

In the beginning I wasn't intended to take part of the contest since I'm the person incharge of the contest, but my Chairman told me to take part because the selection will be done by our Managing Director, not by organising committees. So I decided to submit some pictures for the contest.

When I received the result, I wasn't aware I won the 1st prize until I read it in detail. I was so surprised that my picture was selected as the winner of the contest! I wonder why this picture selected, I really no idea and this wasn't my favorite picture. Anyway, many thanks to my Directors!

The End of 2010

Time really flies, I still feel that year 2010 still got long way to go, then I realised it just few days away to the end of year 2010!

These few days I kept recall back what were happening in this year, after recalled back then only realised this year was my most hectic year in working life... I flew a lot to Middle East this year until I dare not recall it.

Summary of 2010:

Is Suicide A Solution?

It's been very long time I never write about something serious on my own thoughts, this time I really want to voice out what I think about the 'new' trend of ending own life... Is it a cursed? This reminds me about a well known suicide song "Gloomy Sunday" which caused hundred of lives just ended by suicide.

Recently there are so many suicide cases happened around, I was wondering is it only because of a hot news that made all newspapers more focus on suicide cases? Or it's been happened all the while but nobody care about it? From my opinion, it does happened all the time, but it just don't any big bang news about it.

I believe majority of us have think about to end own life before, but we just got no guts to do it or we can think wisely in the end. We are human or I can say we are living creature in this world, it's unfair to say we human only got feeling and emotions, even animals have feeling too!

We human as one of the living creatures on this earth, it's normal to have the most saddest or most down moment, it's mostly caused by love or relationship, financial, education, career, family matters, social life and so on... Nobody can escaped from it, it depends on how you think and handle it. To me no matter how bad the situation, there is always has its solution to solve it, it's the matter you accept it or not.

I've read many articles and heard from many parties talked about suicides, I can conclude that those made this move their thought were out of control just in split seconds. Many also said that the last moment before stop breathing, those suicide victims really regretted of their move. To me, it's quite true based on researches report I read before on some suicide victims being rescued, they really felt regret of it.

Try think about it, is it worth to end your own life in this way? Suicide is a crime, it's nothing different of killing a human life. It also causes chaos to everything around you, properties damaged, people who love you will be sad forever and so on... Sorry to say I'm not offended to those who already done it, I'm not the right person to stop it happens, I respect your decision.

I know no matter how I say here will not change anything, every individual has its own thinking, but I do wish those who now thinking of doing this stupid move, please think twice! It's all about timing, I believe if they have few more seconds to think wisely, it will not happened at all.

Of course every life will have its end, life is so fragile, you'll never know when is your turn, but at least try to appreciate what you have now, don't be so selfish and don't let others who love you more feel worry or sad about it forever.

So is suicide a solution? My answer is NO! Nothing is perfect, just learn to accept facts and appreciate everything surrounding you. Quality of life is not to achieve your dream, it's to accept what you have and happy with it.

Wonder why I'm so in love this song? Well it's hard to explain why, it's like when you deeply fall in love with someone without any reason, it's all about the feel. If the love can be explained, that is not true love anymore.

To me, this song always my Number One song of my life and I've decided to make it as 'My Life Theme Song'. Everytime when I listen to this song, my soul will automatically go into the music and feel it especially when the guitar solo part. I can say it's the all time best guitar solo ever in rock music history, you may not agree with me but musics are very subjective, nobody can love the same music.

I started listen to this song when I was a kid, but I'm still don't understand about music that time, but after I watched the PULSE concert in my friend's house, I was totally deeply fell in love with this song! The concert was awesome and how I wished I can see this concert (PULSE) live in front of my own eyes, but looks like we'll never have the chance anymore...

Now I found out that my choice of this music is correct! 'Comfortably Numb' was rated as the Number One Greatest Guitar Tone of All Time... Ever! You can find out the source HERE. David Gilmour (Sound and Guitar of Pink Floyd) really is a Master of Guitar Tone of all, and his touched of every notes are full with emotion and feeling.

I've been searching for various version of this Comfortably Numb in live via Youtube recently, and moments ago, the Live8 version (2005) was the most emotion to me. I remember back in year 2005, I was watching the Live8 Live on satellite TV (Astro in Malaysia) and was waiting for Pink Floyd to perform on stage for the whole night long!

Live8 2005 was the most historic moment for all Pink Floyd fans as Roger Waters joined back Pink Floyd to perform on this charity concert after he left the band for 20 years! It was the most epic moment of the whole concert, the moment they stood out, I really can't hold my tears!

Now I still very emotion when watch this video when four of them hugged together at the end of their show, we'll not able to see this scene anymore as we know that the late Richard Wright is no more longer with us.

I read from some sources said that Pink Floyd will reunion for a big concert before Richard Wright left us, I really can't accept it! My long waited dream to watch Pink Floyd in live has gone forever...

It was my most emotional came back to this Abu Dhabi's Yas Marina Racing Circuit after I left this track for 1 year plus when we completing the construction work of this racing circuit.

So coincidence that I got tasks to do in Abu Dhabi at this week and I flew over from Kuala Lumpur to Abu Dhabi. Many thanks to my fellow colleague Mr. Yap who get me an access pass to Pit Walk on 11/11/2010 Thursday.

I missed the last year 1st ever race here since I transferred back to Malaysia before the race day, I always wish to watch at least a F1 race in any race tracks but always failed to do so. I love F1 since I was just 7 years old, but never got the chance to watch live on any tracks. Anyway, it was good enough for me to come back to this world most advance racing track for the pit walk session.

It was so emotion when I stepped into the pit lane, my sweat & blood was poured over this pit lane before, I believe everyone will feel the same when you return to a project that you involved before.

Two weeks back I went back to Penang and again with my cousin brother went for another photo shooting session. This time we chosen Khoo Kongsi in town area.

The entrance fee is RM5 for each person, overall I'm quite impressed with the way they taken care of the buildings and collected antiques there. It also provided lots of information about the Khoo Kongsi.

I'm pleased and happy after visited this place which I planned to go for many years but did not made it because I wasn't really know the place and of course not much time to go.

Penang Photowalk (Part 3/3) - Chew Clan Jetty

This is the final part of my Penang Photowalk on 28 August 2010.

After the Chinese Opera Pre-Show shooting, we heading to one of the tourist attraction spots in Penang, Chew Clan Jetty. Seriously it was my first time to enter into this place and just noticed that the people there are friendly.

I really like this kind of 'kampung' feel, I was so amazed with the building structure only build by timber on the sea. No car can enter the place, the common transports to enter this jetty are only bicycle and motorbike.

I wasn't aware this place has been selected as one of our local movie scene in 'Ice Kacang Puppy Love' until I watched the movie after I visited to Chew Clan Jetty.

Penang Photowalk (Part 2/3) - Chinese Opera

Continue from previous post...

From Beach Street me with my cousin brother and his 'skinny alien' girl friend planned to move to Chew's Bridge. Before entering Chew's Bridge, we saw Chinese Opera show preparation before the show for the 'Hungry Ghost' Month festival.

We were shooting from outside in the beginning, then we saw a group of outsider/visitors climbed into the backstage to snap photos. At first we were hesitate to go in too, then I decided just climb in then only decide how if they not allow us to go into the backstage.

Surprisingly they did not blocked us, they just did the make-up without care about what we did. It was my first time in my life managed to enter the Chinese Opera Show's backstage.

One thing I really respect all of them is they don't even need make-up artists, all they just did on their own with a small mirror!

I really wish I can do it more in future, but now days we hardly can see Chinese Opera Show around. It's sad to see it slowly disappear, and I really hope that the tradition will never dies.

Penang Photowalk (Part 1/3) - Beach Street

This Penang Photowalk was about 2-3 weeks ago, it was before the Merdeka Day. I went together with my cousin brother & his 'skinny alien' again who also a great photography enthusiasm.

We started about evening time before the sunset, it was the great time which the weather wasn't that hot. The photowalk started at Beach Street then all the way to Chew's Bridge.

This post will only show on Beach Street which many people called it as Banks Street since this street has most of the banks in Malaysia. It was on weekend, so most of the shops and banks were closed.

Putrajaya Floria 2010 (Part 1 of 2)

It was the last minute decision to go for this Flora Fest in Putrajaya after failed to find any Lotus and Water Lily in Kepong.

It's my first experienced to shoot close up on flowers, I was just using my Nikkor 105mm f2.8 VR Micro lens most of the time to shoot, it was a great photography outing afterall.

Lotus (Part 2)

This post can be considered as super outdated post, I went for my 2nd Lotus shooting on the following week of my 1st Lotus shooting in my previous posts.

On my 2nd attempt to shoot the Lotus, I purposely bought a pair of rubber shoe and planned to go nearer to the Lotus flowers. So coincidence there was a group of experienced Lotus shooters also there early in the morning, when I about to walk into the pond, the group of old photographers told me better not to go into the water as they heard that place got crocodile!

So, I just shoot at the slope and did not managed to get more closer to the Lotus flowers as I wished.

Raub & Bentong Day Trip

Last weekend I joined a group of friends and many new friends for one day trip to Raub & Bentong in Pahang. We rented two tour vans to go for this trip, the journey was smooth until we get lost to peanut factory.

When we found the peanut factory, it was closed on Saturday, so end up we went for another peanut factory and luckily it was opened and welcome us to visit the factory.

The next destination, we went to a Taufu factory in Bukit Koman, and we were welcome by the owner very well. The owner said the Taufu business has brought forward to the 4th generation! Imagine how experienced they are in making Taufu.

After visited the Taufu factory, we all took a break and had lunch in Raub town, then had a short walkabout and I did not snap much pictures during that time.

Finally, we went to Chamang Waterfalls before we head back to Kuala Lumpur. It was out of my expectation, this waterfalls is so wonderful with the strong current. I just went there to shoot some pictures and did not went into the water.

Overall this trip was really fun with knowing many new friends as well. The group was the mixture of photography enthusiasts and travel enthusiasts. I'm looking forward for another trip to other places.

Now days, many people are into photography as hobby or as their full time job. Of course photography is very fun when you are having the most advance and latest model of the gears.

There are so many types of camera man or so called photographer, it's depend on your budget to play on it. Some people like all the gears out for photo shoot, some will just bring minimum gears which he/she feels good enough for the photo shoot topic.

I used to bring whatever I have for every outing, but after some time I felt it's a waste of energy to carry so much unnecessary weight. Now I just bring minimum gear which I feel it's good enough to shoot what I wanted, that's the learning process.

Yesterday I received an email from my friend on amazing scenes that showed special moment that we rarely see in our life... and I found out one of the pictures very shocked me...

I was laughing non-stop when look at it, I wonder how he runs if any emergency. From my observation to count on the gears he has, I estimated the total value can buy me a house! I'm not that greedy, if I can owned any one of his gears, I'll happy till I cry!

First Lotus Shooting

I always wanted to shoot on Lotus but doesn't found a good spot or right timing on it. Last weekend finally I got the chance to shoot Lotus with my photography buddies at Taman Metropolitan Batu near to Jalan Ipoh and Kepong area.

We went there early morning to catch the better sunlight before it turns to0 bright. It was sunny and good weather on that day, we managed to snap as much as we can. My second intention was to recap back my film SLR skills, too bad I don't have telezoom lens for my film SLR camera, and I did not managed to finish a roll of film.

Back in Labour Day holiday, I decided to go back Penang and tagged along my parents for the morning walk at Botanic Garden in Penang. It was a good idea from my cousin who suggested to bring along all families for this morning walk.

Since my intention was only for photo walk, it's good idea for all can walk around in better environment. It's been many years I never stepped into this Botanic Garden, and it changed alot and getting much better.

Deep Purple Live in Malaysia

Last weekend (16th May 2010) was the most excitement day for me after a long waited rock concert held in Malaysia. It was Deep Purple, the legendary classic rock band came to Malaysia Genting Highland for the concert.

I booked the ticket since in March 2010 to make sure me and some friends got the seats for the concert, I really don't want to miss this concert since it is very very difficult to have rock concert in Malaysia.

It was my first up gone up to Genting Highland after 1989 when I was just a primary school boy and I don't even have the memory how it looks like. We decided to drive my friend's car up and I was the designated driver since I don't want to drink to get drunk.

When we entered to the concert hall, we found out our seats were not at good position, so many objects covered up the stage especially we can't see Don Airey the keyboardist at all! After the show started, there were so many empty seats at the center of the stage, and the crowds started to move over, we also don't missed the chance and move over to the center of the hall for better view.

This time I did not brought my DSLR out since they not allow to bring professional camera in, so I was just brought my point & shoot digital camera, and the quality are not that good. Anyway, it's better than nothing.

Overall the concert was great, but still got many great songs they never played on that night. The most craziest moment was when Smoke On The Water started, all crowds were cheering and sang together.

Last year I watch them before in Dubai, and it was a short concert. This time it was a full concern and Ian Gillan at least can sang better than last year performed in Dubai.

Earth Hour Photo

On 27th March 2010, whole world is celebrating Earth Hour by switching off all lights for 1 hour. So what was the main purpose of having this kind of event? At first the main objective is to save our planet from global warming for cut down the usage of power or energy.

I was just wondering, since the campaign is to save the energy usage, but why still got so many insists to take more pictures by using DSLR? Since everyone is so keen to snap the moment, here I presenting you my so called BEST EVER photo I took in my entire life...

Since all switched off the light, what do you expect? That's the picture outcome I can get!

I think the campaign is a bullshit! Since they wanted to save the energy usage, but why still insists to take photos? DSLR no need power to operate? I wonder which manufacture can produce a DSLR can operate without battery like old type fully manual SLR.

Another thing, after snap the picture, how are you going to see it and publish it? You still need a computer to do it right? Somemore editing... All these need power supply to do it!

Furthermore so many participants light up with candle, hello! Candle burning produce Carbon Monoxide ok? Is that the correct way to save the planet? How about the T-Shirt printing? Brochure printing, are these all no need power at all? After the campaign what will these things do? In the rubbish dump? Or on every streets?

Some still have live telecast on this event, hello! Live telecast no need power is it? Many will switched off the light, but still left the fan or air-conditional on with full blast, so what is the objective?

For my view, if really want to do it, just do it properly, turn off everything, no need any big gathering or special event in particular place. All you need is just TURN OFF the main distribution switch in your premises, turn off your mobile, turn off your engine and go to sleep!

Kek Lok Si (CNY 2010)

I know this post will be boring to those who follow my blog from beginning, this is not the 1st time I post about Kek Lok Si. Anyway, this was my 1st time ever to snap Kek Lok Si photos with DSLR, furthermore the Kwan Yin's Pavilion Shelter was just completed. So no matter how I must go to snap it in this Chinese New Year.

I went with my cousin brother on the 4th day of CNY 2010, we moved quite early to avoid heavy traffic jam over there. It was raining during my way to Kek Lok Si, luckily when we about to reached Kek Lok Si, the rain stopped and it was just nice for visitors to visit there with cooling weather.

The traffic started getting bad when we reached Air Itam area, we managed to reached on top of Kek Lok Si in 1 hour time. According to others who came later than us, they were stuck in jam for more than 2 hours!

Kek Lok Si (CNY 2010)

I always wish to have a shooting session at this Tow Boo Kong (9 Emperors Temple) nearby my hometown house. This temple becoming an iconic building along the famous Jalan Raja Uda in Butterworth.

I used to join the 9 Emperors Festival ceremony during my school days but after I graduated from high school, I no longer join the festival anymore due to I study and working in outstation.

Previously this temple already decorated with hand-made crafted stone arts in the temple. Recent years, this temple keep upgrading and uplifting the image and now become one of the famous tourist spot in Butterworth.

I'm really impressed with the changes after so long I never really stepped into this temple...

Nikkor 17-55mm f2.8 vs Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 VC

Today I went to Nikon Center at Time Square Kuala Lumpur with my friend, then met up with my uncle and cousin there.

The purpose I went to Nikon Center was to test out the new D3s and some of my dream lenses. I brought together with my Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 VC to compare with the legendary Nikkor 17-55mm f2.8 to see the differences between these two famous lenses for DX format DSLR.

I was just tested out at 17mm focal length with f2.8 only, but for the conclusion let's look at below...

From the above 2 samples, we can see the Tamron is slightly wider than Nikkor at 17mm focal length.

Let's see more closely with crops factor to 800 x 531.

I'm surprised with the Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 VC is sharper and colour is more vibrant than Nikkor 17-55mm f2.8! All pictures above were shoot in RAW format then direct converted to JPEG and resized only.

Now I can forget about Nikkor 17-55mm f2.8 DX. The Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 VC only lack of focus speed which I don't really particular on it. What I can say is Tamron did a great job on this lens with VC, it's far cheaper yet picture quality is slightly better and slightly wider at 17mm focal length.

2 weeks back, it was my first experience flying with smaller scale of plane with Firefly. My working company arranged me flight instead of let me drive from Kuala Lumpur to Penang for a site visit.

So coincidence my father was admitted into hospital and needs medical operation in Penang, so end up it was my 2 in 1 tasks back to Penang.

After flew with Firefly, I found out I kinda like it compare to MAS or Air Asia, the check-in is so easy and luggage delivered very fast. Passengers also lesser and I felt more comfortable with it, the seats are quite comfortable as well, the only lack is when took off the engine sound was very noisy.

Petaling Street Photo Walk

Was having photo walk session with a group of photographers and also members of Shutter Asia on 3rd Jan 2010.

Raining on that early morning and I was about not to join the photo walk, but I still joined since everyone still carried on despite rain. We started the session along Petaling Street then heading to Central Market.

It was a great outcome to know more friends and share the photography experiences together.
